The Billboard Art Project is a nonprofit organization that acquires digital billboards normally used for advertising and repurposes them as roadside galleries. Projects have been held in cities all over the United States and are open to all individuals and groups who are interested in participating. Types of work that may be displayed include images created specifically for the billboards as well as images of previously made art adapted for the billboards. No two Billboard Art Project shows are alike; each city features new work. In addition to providing artists with a venue to display their art, free art shows are provided to the public, thus initiating a dialogue between artists, viewers and the public landscape.
